Before you move in…
What are the top tips before you move into your student accommodation?
It can be really exciting to get the keys finally! If you’re moving into your student digs soon, here are our top tips before you move in.
- Take pictures – we mean it! Take plenty, every room, every piece of furniture, stains on the carpet, scratch on the wall? Honestly, you can’t take too many. Save these photos in a safe place that can also be time dated. These photos will act in your favor to resecure your deposit when you move out.
- Make sure that everything is in working order. You can create a checklist if you think it will help! This includes the TVs, oven, microwave, showers, and all plumbing and electrical appliances. The last thing you want on move-in day is a faulty shower and a fridge with warm milk.
- Read over your tenancy agreement – and try and convince your housemates to do the same. You don’t want to be hit with terms and conditions later in your contract because you didn’t read them.
- Check for dampness, look in the corners of each room, and check carpets, bathrooms, and ceilings. Damp problems will need to be raised with your landlord so that they can be resolved.
