James and Owen created the concept of Roome in 2020 whilst both studying at university just as they were about to enter their placement year. With the start of the pandemic, the issues of finding good housemates and accommodation for students became larger. Working closely with the University of Surrey Students Union, James and Owen bought forward Roome’s launch date so students in Guildford could begin using the platform to find housemates and accommodation as soon as the platform was ready to use to assist what had been a very isolating start to the 2020/21 academic year.
With support from the Surrey Students Union and Surrey Student Enterprise, Roome entered the market and in our first 6 months helped over 1,000 Surrey students find housemates and accommodation!
